Self Improvement – how much do you need?

Many seekers have spent thousands and thousands of dollars of self improvement. Many of them do not feel improved.  How often are you incredibly attracted to that energy therapy, spirit healing, new way to make yourself better?

How much improvement do you need?  If results are not forthcoming, it is easy to believe there’s something lacking in you. Many of us have spent years with a sneaking suspicion that there’s something wrong with us.  Some of us try hard to figure out how to change what’s wrong, with self improvement.  We have tried so many things, to no avail, we think maybe there’s a LOT wrong.

Maybe not.

You may have been carrying baggage around with you since you could walk.  It rarely occurs to us to notice how much the world reinforces that belief that we are never good enough.  We need self improvement.

On top of that, even though we know to focus on what we want more of, self improvement can get us focusing on what is wrong instead.  This is the wrong approach and a perpetual resistance machine.

How do you know if lack of results a need for improvement?  Maybe you are hiding your light under a bushel.

What if you are whole, perfect and complete?  It could be that what you need is be more fully yourself?  What if you turn away from what is less that perfect and focus on living according to your purpose and your nature?  What if you measured your success on how much satisfaction life brings?

Like most good practices, you have to try this orientation for a bit to see how it transforms.  Self improvement is a cheap imitation of seeking what is special in you.  You will be pleasantly surprised because there is more magic within than you have been allowed to believe.

Of course you have baggage.  It could be you don’t fit in. Maybe you are imperfect.  It could be you are invisible or people leave you.  We all have this special stuff. It also helped you develop empathy, compassion, sensitivity, lovingkindness… Notice how you have some of that luggage after years of self improvement?

Recognize your favorite baggage and then focus on what you want instead.  Worry creates things to worry about.  Focus on what will make you love your life.  Don’t tell yourself positive stories about negative feelings!  Think about what you positively want instead. Your feelings don’t need to be fixed either!

Engage your inner spirit.  Knowing you have an inner genius can really lift your basic mood. Recognizing that genius, and its full complement of superpowers also leads you down a different and more scenic path than self improvement.   Finding out that I had a spirit within that could do miracles gave me incredible optimism, and the sense that I might indeed be whole, perfect and complete made me feel that, yes there is some purpose to my life.

The superconscious will create your baggage or your desire, so learn to focus on your desire.

Learning to engage the inner spirit does require a commitment and a change in mindset.  You must cultivate a peaceful and coherent state.  You must pursue a life you love, directly, and let go of notions about what you should want, and the right way to get it.  You must open up to your dreams and see them as callings.  Know you were put upon this planet to pursue a specific purpose, over and above a process or a dogma.

And when you follow your purpose and do what  you love, all the stress in the world will be fun.
