Finding the Heart of Magic Within Yourself
I am here to tell you that you can pursue your dreams. In fact, I am here to tell you that you must pursue your dreams. I have been on the planet for a while and have had enough experience with clients, friends, relatives and myself to know that it is not an option.
I would go on to say that during these wild times, it is more important than ever that you pursue at least something that will really bring you joy and satisfaction. And, when the status quo is in upheaval, it’s in some ways easier to begin something new. This does not mean starting a job or a business – though it might. It means bringing something of your unique expression into your life as an important part of your life.
You were put on this planet, at a given time, with your particular gifts. You were not an accident or an extra. You have special gifts, but you probably met at least a few authorities who told you to make life decisions without regard to those gifts. Your family may have valued your gifts or they may not have understood them.
In the Gospel According to St. Thomas, Jesus says, “If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”
Whether you believe it or not, the forces inside you will, without ceasing, move you toward being who you were meant to be. The experience will be more or less comfortable depending on how congruent your life is with your true self dreams.
If you are feeling a deep dissatisfaction or a restlessness, or if you are frustrated as hell because you “can’t” do what you really care about, or if you are even finding life boring these days, I will urge you to create and pursue one of your dreams – just one. It seems like a big project, but it may be easier than you think!
For one thing, when you start moving in the direction of your true desires, you are moving with the current. Everything you do to go in the right direction is easier than anything you do to go in a different direction.
And you don’t need to have a midlife crisis or a career change, either. Even if you can pursue only part of your dream, it will give your whole life momentum. Living some one part of your dreams is like buying that one beautiful article of furniture. You get it in your life, you make room for it, you rearrange other things to work with the new piece, and maybe you get rid of some item you no longer need. Before you know it your whole life is more the way you wanted it.
Why is this important? Well the easiest answer is you will be more happy if you are living one of your dreams. There is something important about you doing what you love to do. The world, quite simply, needs it.
Perhaps you think your dream isn’t important. You’ve lived with it forever so it seems quite ordinary to you. But trust me it isn’t. It is critical to you.
When people are not downplaying their dreams, they are seeing them as extremely bizarre and impossible, but this is not true either. It may help to find a coach, or a mastermind group who will help you with your perspective.
Sometimes we need simply to frame the goal a bit differently or give it a different name. Go google what you do and see how many others do some similar thing.
